Programming, Robotics and ICT in International School Peniscola
In Colegios ISP we know that currently is impossible to talk about education without referencing the ICT and the new possibilities that digital devices and virtual learning devices offer us. They are an essential tool for all the areas, both academic and professional. That is why in International School Peniscola we have developed a transversal programme that concerns from P4 to Bachillerato (A Levels).

First steps in the ICT
Students of P3, P4 and P5 have weekly classes with computers and iPads of the school in order to recognize functions, obtain routines and have fine psychomotricity, which in later stages will allow them to learn at higher speed.
In Primary school each student has their own iPad. That allows them to have an individualized education at their speed, reinforce contents individually or move forward when the contents are consolidated. Students are no longer content consumers, they become content creators.
In Secondary school and Bachillerato (A Levels) it is advisable to have a laptop, since it is necessary to know how to manipulate this tool in later stages, either at university or doing an advanced degree. It is advisable because they have to learn to create more complex multimedia content.
Programming classes start in P4. Programming is introduced as a game, so students learn at the same time that they have fun. First they do it on their own iPad with an application and then they do it in a more interactive way with the robot “Cubetto – Primo”.
For students it is a game, but for educators it establishes the bases of structuring their minds for the computational thinking.
The computational thinking allows to analyse problems, organise and represent data in a logic way, to automate solutions with the algorithmic thinking, to use abstractions and models, to communicate processes and results and to recognise patterns, as well as to generalise and transfer.
In Primary and Secondary school and in Bachillerato (A Levels) they continue learning programming progressively, from games to projects or participating in competitions as the Lego League.
Robotics is an extension of programming. It is necessary to programme so that a robot executes the programmes, which are previously thought, to solve a problem. With robotics, students learn the functional part of programming, and see how it is necessary to learn the programming language to solve some daily problems.
Knowledge is widen in the extracurricular activity “Robotics”, and because they participate in school competitions, students have a high level of motivation that allows them to learn at a significant speed.
3D printing in a scholar centre gives advantages and a great education in values.
3D printing allows the true replication of the parts of any living being’s anatomy, for its study in Biology, or the impression of topographic maps for their study in Geography. In the area of Industrial Design or Architectural Design, it allows the student to reproduce pieces of their designs on a determined scale to make work prototypes. In the area of Plastic Arts or Graphical Design, it allows to obtain tridimensional objects of their works in the phases of the creative process.
When objects are reproduced depending on the concrete needs of the users, massive production is reduced and, as well, overexploitation of raw materials and the waste generation. Products can last more if the damaged pieces are substituted. Repair is the fourth “r” of ecology. We need to learn these values, since we live in a consuming society.
In International School Peniscola we have recovered typing in the curriculum because we consider that is very important that students have this ability. In the globalised and computerised world in which we live, students cannot waste time learning to type at home. This competence has to be learnt at school, in order to have time for their studies or projects.
Students learn typing on their own iPad from the 2nd year of Primary school to the 6th year of Primary school.
Applications and office IT programmes allow to think, create, edit, transmit and save information. Current students live in the society of information, and they have to be able to manipulate, edit and create this information.
In Colegios ISP we use the Google Apps For Education, so that students have a good command of text processors, presentations, e-mails, virtual agendas, know the concept of cloud computing, navigate in a secure way, distinguish the reliable information sources from the non-reliable sources…
Office IT is started to learn in 4th year of Secondary school with the iPad and continues in the Secondary school and Bachillerato, adding to it the security of our devices, social networks and Internet security.
